Founded February 10, 1930, as the Kansas City Paint & Varnish Club, the charter members all looked into the future for the benefits of mutual cooperation from sharing knowledge with each other in a technical order.

1931
First official contact with St. Louis club for joint meetings.
1943
First turkey raffle (retained through the years).
1947
Change in by-laws to Class B membership to help the club grow; first representative to the Federation, W. W. Vasterling
1951
A different interpretation of by-laws opened door to more representation of member companies.
Meeting night was changed to second Wednesday.
1954
Meeting night was changed back to second Thursday of each month.
1961
The name was changed to Kansas City Society for Paint Technology.
1964
First prize winning technical paper by Richard L. Smith in Annual Federation Meeting in Chicago.
1966
Class F membership was established.
1968
First joint business meeting with Kansas City Paint, Varnish & Lacquer Association was held. W. W. Vasterling installed as Treasurer of the Federation.
1969-70
John Griswold, President. W. W. Vasterling installed as President Elect of the Federation.
1970-71
Bill Hunt, President. W. W. Vasterling installed as President of the Federation, the first member from the Kansas City Society to be elected to the Federation.
Issued the first yearbook.
J. C. Leslie was elected to Federation Board of Directors for three years.
1971-72
John Ormsby, President. Six members were presented 25-year pins: Earl Campbell, R. Van Deutekom, Harold Kicker, J. C. Leslie, Norbert Mann, and Willard Vasterling.
First seminar sponsored, chaired by Warren Manley, Educational Chairman.
1972-73
Norman Hon, President. Our Society’s membership passed 100 members.
J. C. Leslie was elected Treasurer of the Federation.
1973-74
Dan Bernard, President.
J. C. Leslie was elected President Elect of the Federation.
Jim Edwards presented the Society’s technical paper in Chicago at the Annual Meeting and won for first place for presentation and second place for content.
Second edition of the Society yearbook was published.
1974-75
Ray Gross, President. J. C. Leslie assumed the office of President of the Federation. Hugh McCranie, Chairman of the Technical Committee, placed second for presentation of the Society’s technical paper in Atlanta, Georgia.
1975-76
Jim Edwards, President. Steve Crouse, Technical Chairman, placed second for his presentation of the Society’s technical paper.
1976-77
Ray Lawson, President. Terryl Johnson, our Society Rep, was elected to a three-year term as a member of the Federation Board.
1977-78
Hugo Manco, President. Willard Vasterling was elected by the Federation Past Presidents for a two-year term as a member of the Federation Board of Directors.
Name change to Kansas City Society for Coatings Technology.
Incorporated as a Missouri not-for-profit corporation.
First year to establish an Auditing Committee, an annual budget, and an Executive Board of Directors.
25-year pins were presented to John Ormsby, Herb Haas, and R. M. Griswold.
1978-79
Bill Fitzpatrick, President. The Federation Spring Meeting was held at the Kansas City Crown Center Hotel.
Steve Johnson, Technical Committee Chairman, won first place for his presentation of Society’s technical paper.
1979-80
William Smith, President. Kansas City Society and St. Louis Society hosted the Annual Meeting & Paint Show in St. Louis, Missouri, a first for the Kansas City Society.
Terryl Johnson became a member of the Federation’s Executive Committee.
1980-81
Richard Warren, President. R. Van Deutekom, Past President of Kansas City Paint & Varnish Club, 1938 & 1945), receives his 50-year pin. He was a Charter Member of the Society and is retired from Tnemec Company as Vice President and Chief Chemist.
Celebrated the Society’s 50th anniversary, the 16th member of the Federation to do so.
1981-82
Mike Bauer, President. By-Laws change, giving voting rights to Associate members.
1982-83
President Mel Boyer awards 25-year pin to David McGuire of Cook Paint. Technical Committee presents paper, “A Performance Comparison of Exterior Flat Finishes on Hardboard Siding.”
1983-84
President Gene Wayenberg congratulates the ‘82-’83 Technical Committee for three prizes on Paint Journal award paper.
Terryl Johnson was elected Federation President.
R. Van Deutekom passed away, the last charter member and the first 50-year member.
1984-85
President Steve Bussjaeger presents 25-year pin to Barney Pallia of Cook Paint and Jack Tucker of Valspar.
1985-86
President Jerry Hefling congratulates the Technical Committee Chairman for the paper “Painting Wood and Wood Composition Substrates” presented at Spring Week KCSCT wins “World Series” bet with St. Louis Society thanks to our K.C. Royals world champs.
1986-87
President Steve Johnson takes pride in our membership’s growth.
1987-88
Roger Haines, President, presented a 25-year pin to Norman Hon and Hugo Manco. The By-Laws were changed to allow Associate members to be elected to hold office in the local Society.
1988-89
President Nick Dispensa was very happy about KCSCT being one of the top three in the Federation to have a large increase in membership.
1989-90
President Mark Algaier, with help from Lawrence Murphy, starts a newsletter which was enjoyed by the members.
1990-91
President Jeff Laurent lines up great programs for the local Society. Jeff is the first Associate member to become president.
Yvonne D’Arcy becomes the first female to be voted in as a Society officer (Treasurer).
1991-92
President Craig Hughes
1992-93
Yvonne D’Arcy becomes the first female president to guide our local Society.
1993-94
President Lawrence Murphy increases membership by involving and expanding committees and more technical programs.
1994-95
President William Porter has the foresight to get the By-Laws changed to be in sync with the Federation officer structure; Vice President will be in line to the President and Past President will be a Board Member.
1995-96
President Lawrence Murphy, only the fifth president to repeat the office, was very busy along with other local Society members helping the St. Louis Society host the FSCT Paint Show in St. Louis, October 1995.
1996-97
President Randall Ehmer gets the rare honor of awarding a 50-year pin to J. C. Leslie, Past President (1958) and Past Federation President (1973).
